The defining upgrades over the $5,000 build: club data you can trust (face angle, path, impact location) and GSPro running on a dedicated gaming PC — the software the simulator community has standardized on for realism.

  • Square Golf Omni ($1,599) — full club data with zero subscription, ever. Requires stickers on clubface and shaft, but frees up $1,400 for a better enclosure or PC.

The Enclosure: Build It Once

At this budget, buy a full enclosure kit (frame, blackout walls, quality impact screen) rather than a standalone screen. Roughly $1,500 gets a Carl’s Place Pro–class kit that seals light out of the hitting area, protects your walls from the inevitable shank, and makes the projected image dramatically more immersive. Add two LED shop lights above the hitting zone — camera-based monitors reward consistent lighting.

The Gaming PC and GSPro

GSPro is the reason this build exists: community-built courses (40,000+ and growing), realistic physics, online tournaments. It needs a Windows PC with a modern GPU — an RTX 4060-class prebuilt around $1,200 runs it beautifully at 1080p projection. Mount the PC on a small shelf in the enclosure frame, and budget an afternoon for cable management you’ll never regret.

Space Requirements

Camera units at this tier want 9 ft ceilings minimum, 12–14 ft width, and 18 ft depth. The Eye Mini sits beside the ball rather than behind it, which saves about 2 ft of depth versus radar — a genuine advantage in tighter rooms. Full space math in the garage build guide.

The Upgrade Path

From here, upgrades are about photometric ceiling: the Foresight GC3 and eventually the GCQuad — that’s the $15,000 build. Your enclosure, projector, PC, and turf all carry forward; only the launch monitor swaps.
